So Democrats very confused as to how to deal with President Trump. So far, many of them holding their fire. But the frustration is beginning to creep in. Chris Matthews backing up as my Sig, which always gets me excited because that means I get to do my Chris Matthews impersonation. And, man, he is looking rough. Time has not been kind to my man. Chris Matthews over on msnbc. Here he is. Come on in there. Come here to the show. All rumpled, wearing a shirt. Looks like I've been irons since 1982. Wearing a tie and a jacket that are too close and cut, don't really match. Not looking amazing here. Kind of like Bill Clinton aging a mudslide in the Hollywood Hills. Face kind of coming, but, you know, gotta say some things. Gonna wheel in here all wild. Here we go. Let's talk about what should Democrats do? Chris Matthews, what should they do? Go.

I watch the Democrats and the media, too. It's very hard to take on a firing squad. A lot of bullets coming your way, all aiming at you, and you've got to shoot back in all directions at the same time. Nobody in the Democratic Party can say Schumer can't do it. He's a good leader. You know, Pelosi was a fabulous leader, but the ability to take on all the shots at once, now, that's interesting. Why can't a Democratic leader stand up and say when I just said what I just said, this guy's taken down the Congress. He's taken down the rights of the American people. He's the big boss overseas. And back here, the big boss. Listen to him, do what he says. Nobody's saying that. Chris Murphy's trying. I keep winning. Who's gonna stand up? Who's gonna take a shot back at this guy?
-
Unknown A
Who's gonna do it? I don't see anybody. They're running away. Little pansies. Why? Why?
-
Unknown B
Why?
-
Unknown A
You say the reason is because there isn't a really effective angle against President Trump as of yet. He is brand new in office. He is currently above water in his approval ratings for the first time in his entire political career. You don't have a shot. You got nothing. And so if you're smart and you're a Democrat, what you're doing is you're holding your fire for actual egregious action. You're not wasting all your fire right now on trying to go up against Trump for illegal immigration or for Doge, all of which is pretty popular in terms of its overall outlook in the United States. Meanwhile, John Oliver, when will he just Go away. Why is he here? I assume that John Oliver is here on some sort of talent visa, which is a real stretch, because to have a talent visa, theoretically should have talent. Two of the most obnoxious people in the history of comedy, Stephen Colbert and John Oliver chatting about President Trump on CBS late night.
-
Unknown A
I believe, honestly, this is like found footage. I believe that we are together, the first people to have ever watched this footage, because who the hell watches Stephen Colbert with John Oliver? A nightmare of cataclysmic proportions in terms of comedy.

Unknown C
You are a recent citizen.
-
Unknown D
Yes.
-
Unknown C
Congratulations.
-
Unknown D
Thanks very much. Thanks.
-
Unknown E
Yeah.
-
Unknown C
How do you feel? How do you feel? Are you still gonna stick it out, or are you gonna head back to England?
-
Unknown D
Oh, no, I'm sticking it out. I'm going. I'm going down with the Titanic. I know there are. There might be life rafts available, but I'm tuning up. Gentlemen, it's been an honor playing with you. I think. I think.
-
Unknown C
I think I'm the guy who falls and then hits the propeller before he goes in the water.
-
Unknown B
Spin.
-
Unknown D
Everyone wants to be that guy.
-
Unknown A
Yes.
-
Unknown D
If you're going down, whoosh. Off the propeller.
-
Unknown A
Mm. Mm. Man. Hilarity, hilarity. Well, I mean, you could leave. We don't want you here. You can go. You've added nothing to the political discourse, and you've subtracted a great deal from it. And if Stephen Colbert wants to go with you, I understand he's an American citizen and was born here and all that, but, you know, if you want to take him with you, no one's going to have any hard feelings about all this. This is a big problem for the left. What is their point of differentiation? It's also, as I say, and I'm going to keep warning of it, every politician, every president, experiences crises during his presidency. Every single one. There's yet to be a president who's not experienced crisis during his presidency. The question is, what happens when that crisis occurs? Does the president handle it well? Has the president eroded his base of support?
-
Unknown A
President Trump, I think, understands better than any president in my lifetime that he has to move fast, because, again, things happen quickly. And so you got to make the big changes and you got to do them early. But this is why I think it's so important that he expend his energies in the right place. I think what he's doing with Doge is fabulous. I think what he's doing in the Middle east is terrific. I think that if he can get to some sort of solution in Ukraine quickly with Alacrity that gets the Europeans deeply involved to actually pick up the tab. Great. Anything else? Any other distractions are going to inevitably redound, not to his benefit, but to the benefit of Democrats. And President Trump does understand he basically has a year to get everything done, because once we get to next year, everybody's running for the midterm elections.
-
Unknown A
Democrats are heavily favored to win the House back in the midterms because usually the party in power loses seats in the midterm elections. We'll have to see how things shake out. Right now, Democrats are on their back foot. Republicans should not give them an opportunity to get off that back foot, especially absent some sort of terrible, exogenous circumstance. We'll get to more on this in a moment. First, in the wake of ongoing conflict, Israel continues to face profound humanitarian challenges. The International Fellowship of Christians and Jews remains steadfast in providing vital support to those affected across the Holy Land, offering hope and healing to communities in crisis. Your compassionate gift today will deliver essential aid to the devastated communities in both northern and southern Israel. Your generosity will directly impact those most vulnerable. Displaced families seeking refuge from conflict zones, dedicated first responders and volunteers, recovering soldiers, elderly Holocaust survivors, families who've lost their homes and livelihoods, countless others in desperate need.

Benforthefellowship.org your kindness makes an enormous difference. Thank you and God bless. Help out to the best of your ability. Ben for the fellowship.org Again, that's been for the fellowship.org Meanwhile, some clouds on the horizon with regard to the economy. So inflation continues to hover around 3%. There's significant worries that it might go the wrong way. President Trump did, in fact address this a little bit yesterday. He was talking about inflation during his interview with Elon Musk, and he suggested that inflation is in fact back. But he also suggested that it would militate and that he had nothing to do with that inflation. Now that's true. He suggested during this interview that we inherited the inflation. Inflation is back. I'm only here for two and a half weeks.
-
Unknown A
Inflation is back. They said, oh, Trump, I had nothing to do with it. These people have run the country. They spent money like nobody's ever spent. That is true. That is 100% true. But moving forward, it's going to be on his permanent record. So obviously inflation is going to be an issue. There are a couple of ways of Bringing down inflation, one way is through productivity growth. When you have brand new products and services and more competition, the prices are going to come down. That is something that President Trump is trying to do by having more companies founded in the United States. Deregulating tariffs are probably not going to help that purpose. Tariffs at the best are gonna be neutral in terms of pricing. They're certainly not gonna lower prices. So when President Trump says that tariffs are somehow going to lead to an economic boom that somehow lowers inflation, he's playing a little bit with fire here, economically speaking, just in terms of the basic doctrine.
-
Unknown A
Here's President Trump saying companies wanna return to the United States specifically because of tariffs.
-
Unknown E
I've been contacted by some of the biggest companies in the world, and because of what we're doing economically and through tariffs and taxes and incentives, they want to come back into the United States. And we'll be announcing various very large companies, the biggest, actually, and they'll be coming back having to do with chips and having to do also with cars and lots of other things. We're going to be announcing some very, very big, very big, momentous, I think momentous decisions are being made by companies all around the world. The biggest. And they want to come back into.
-
Unknown A
The US and by the way, it is true that as we become a more deregulatory environment with lower taxes, businesses will want to come back here. But if the idea is that we reassure business because of tariffs, that also means that there is limited supply. Limited supply with retained demand tends to increase prices over times when President Trump is pledging more reciprocal tariffs. Again, if he's doing this as a tactic, I've said this all along, tariffs as a tactic to get other countries to lower their tariffs. Not a bad idea. Tariffs is sort of a panacea. That is not a great idea. Here's President Trump on tariffs.
-
Unknown F
What can the EU do to sort of avoid the reciprocal tariffs that you've talked about and, you know, you've talked a lot about the vat. Do you expect them to reduce that?
-
Unknown E
Well, they did already, as I understand it, reduce their car tariff all the way down to what we have. And a lot of that will take place, and I think some won't do it and some will do it, but the EU had a 10% tax on cars and now they have a 2.5% tax, which is the exact same as us. So already we've saved a tremendous amount. That would be great if everybody would do that. Then we'd all be on the same playing field, because essentially what we're doing with the tariffs is, you know, they charge us, we charge them same amount, and it's called reciprocal, actually. And whatever they charge us, we're charging them.
-
Unknown A
Again, not a bad idea to get them to lower their tariffs. If the idea is that somehow makes us stronger, economically speaking, that tends not to be true, which is why many Republicans are trying to curb Trump of some of the tariff talk. According to the Wall Street Journal, U.S. trade Representative nominee Jamison Greer still doesn't have a slot for confirmation before the full Senate Commerce Secretary nominee Howard Lutnick was confirmed last night. But in their absence, a singular figure has risen as leader of the trade agenda. You'll remember him from Trump at number one. That'd be Peter Navarro, the President's special counselor on trade and manufacturing, known for his pugnacious personality and maximalist approach to tariffs. Now, again, I think that the influence of Navarro is in fact going to be sort of washed out in terms of the rest of the Cabinet. The rest of Trump's Cabinet understands that meritless tariffs only increase prices in the United States and make things significantly less affordable and efficient.
-
Unknown A
However, we'll have to make sure that we keep an eye on that because the last thing we want is some sort of economic downturn under President Trump. Joy Behar, who is entirely an idiot, she is making a case about inflation and right now it's a stupid case. But if the inflation remains this way for another year, then it's gonna be hung around Trump's neck whether he likes it or not. There's incompetence and chaos going on and we should not put up with it. Well, I was. And by the way, egg prices are supposed to come down, not airplanes. Okay, now again, that's a stupid take because the airplanes are not coming down because of President Trump and the egg prices are up because of Joe Biden. But inflation is an all purpose acid that eats through everything. Everything. It is the single biggest factor in Joe Biden losing his reelection.
